First Layout!
Yes, this is my first LO of the year! *LOL* and I did it on the floor 'cos at that time I don't even have a table in my scrap room. Yes, I'm claiming that room to be my scrap room during when hubby haven't decided what to do with it, he he...
Nothing much of a technique that I use in the layout, it is just to cure my thirst of creating, I'm using Creative Scrapper's sketch #86.
Product used: Bellablvd letter stickers, BoBunny Delilah PP, Core Color cardstock, Fancy Pants PP, some snowflakes embellishment from HOTP, a BoBunny blue bling, and stickles pen on the title.

Regarding your question a few days ago, I print my photos myself and I do it as I create, meaning I already know which paper line to use and what colors are dominant on that paper. So that is the only time I choose my photo.
I look for photos who has similar colors. Choose the most dominant color on the pp and look for photos who has those colors. If none fits, I make my photo black and white or sepia because that photo will work on any type of patterned paper.
Another thing that you'll notice on pages is I usually use photos that are taken on a close-up range. This will be great if you plan to add more embellishments because the focus will still be on the photo. Use fewer embellishments on full shots photos (action photos, photos with a lot of people). This will workout because it is contrasting to each other and will not make the page cluttered.
Hope this ideas helps and answers some of your question
